A Passion for Teaching Kindergarten at Harris

Harris Elementary School is home to two exceptional Kindergarten teachers. Each has a unique story and teaching style, yet both share a deep passion for educating young learners. Every day, Ms. Randall and Mrs. Page warmly greet each student with a welcoming smile and offer an extra hug when needed, all while teaching Kindergarten standards.

Mrs. Nicole Page
Mrs. Page has been teaching kindergarten at Harris for three years. Throughout her career, she has dedicated herself to nurturing the youngest learners. She finds the age of 5 to 6 years particularly rewarding, as children begin to open up to the world around them. Witnessing their growth and learning is a delight, as they explore new concepts and develop their skills.

Reflecting on her classroom experiences, Mrs. Page finds it challenging to choose just one favorite moment. She cherishes the times when a child grasps a difficult concept or when their fine motor skills improve, transforming their handwriting. Observing these changes over the year is a rewarding part of her teaching journey.

To foster happiness, confidence, and curiosity in her students, Mrs. Page  emphasizes the idea of "growing their brains." From the first day, she encourages them to work towards having a big, powerful brain by the end of the year. She likens the brain to a muscle that grows stronger with use, motivating students to persevere even when they struggle. By revisiting this empowering conversation, she inspires them to fulfill their promise to themselves.

Ms. Tiffany Randall 
Ms. Randall began her journey at Harris in 1997 as a paraprofessional. After completing her student teaching in 2001, she officially started as a teacher in 2003 and has remained at Harris since then. Over the years, Tiffany has taught Kindergarten, 1st grade, and 3rd grade at Harris. 

Her passion for teaching kindergarten stems from watching students grow academically and begin their journey as readers. What makes the kindergarten team at Harris special is their collective view of all students as their own. Ms. Randall cherishes moments like field trips, where she witnesses the joy and learning that occur through play.

In her classroom, fostering a sense of happiness, confidence, and curiosity is a top priority. Mrs. Randall aims to ensure that each student knows how much she cares about them. Throughout the year, they discuss becoming real superheroes and work on developing real superhero powers. A quote that resonates with her teaching philosophy is by Robert Fulghum: "All I really need to know about how to live and what to do and how to be, I learned in kindergarten."
